Why Dental Health is Important

by Dental Group of Lubbock | Dec 1, 2020 | Dental Health

Why Dental Health is Important

There are many reasons why dental health is important, and you should care for your teeth, and maintain good oral hygiene. Issues like cavities and gum disease can create an unhealthy environment in your mouth that can lead to discomfort, and more need for intervention if left untreated. Avoiding a growing list of dental issues is one way that dental health is important. Here are some other reasons you’ll want to take care of your dental health:

Before Interview Breath Check

Many people are concerned about having bad breath. That is why freshly flavored chewing gum, breath mints and mouth sprays are so readily available at most checkout counters. But did you know that bad breath is caused by bacteria?
Dentists recommend brushing your teeth after each meal, or 3 times a day, and it’s not just to freshen your breath after eating a garlicky meal. Brushing freshens your breath because it clears away bacteria and debris that when combined with the salvia in your mouth will erode the hard outer layer, or enamel, of your teeth.

Preventing Decay

Brushing only reaches about 60% of the surface area of your teeth so flossing and using mouthwash is also important to thoroughly remove bacteria and debris from your teeth and gums and keep them healthy. Regular brushing and flossing can play a regular role in preventing tooth decay. If you’re wondering why dental health is important, consider how much you could save in time and hassle by preventing cavities before they start!

Looking Good!

Dental health is important because it has such an impact on how we look, and express ourselves. Nobody wants a dull or discolored smile. Instead we all would like bright healthy teeth that help us shine in whatever role we play in our lives.

Only a dental professional can accurately assess your dental health because they can spot difficult to clean problem areas many people overlook or simply cannot see without the tools and trained eye of a professional. Schedule your regular cleaning to talk to your dentist about why dental health is important and what you can do to maintain it.

Call our Lubbock Dental Office to make an appointment with a dentist who may be able to help you find out more about this topic, and improve your oral health.
